When thinking about your accomplishments, dreams, and hopes, understanding the difference between achieving goals and making a resolution is important. A resolution is the decision to do something.

A goal is a target. Few people know about setting goals and achieving them successfully. According to a study, only 9.2% of people achieve their resolutions and 42% simply give up after one month.

Here are some ways to make resolutions, turn these into goals, and attain them successfully.

How to Achieve Big Goals in Simple Steps

1. Set a goal that motivates you

Make sure that the targets you set are important and achieving these goals gives you some value. When the outcome is irrelevant, there is no motivation to work hard. Setting goals related to high-priority things makes them easier to achieve because there is complete focus every step of the way.

Meeting multiple goals at a time makes it harder for you to commit and there is a lessened sense of urgency. Ultimately, there is only frustration and disappointment that decreases your sense of self-worth.

Ensure that your goal motivates you. Write it down and point out its values. Such value statements are useful during times of self-doubt or loss of confidence.

2. Think about the result you want to see

Before setting goals, examine your targets and determine whether this is what you want so that you can invest the needed effort and time. Without the investment of time, pursuing it may be fruitless.

Focus on one target because too many engagements make achieving even one of these difficulties. Set your priorities to pursue what is most important to you first.

3. Have SMART goals

After zeroing in on your wants, determine whether your goal is a SMART one- meaning that it is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound.

By tracking its progress regularly, achieving goals becomes easier this way. For example, you may set the goal to lose 5 pounds in two weeks so this specifies the target.

4. Write down the goal

Writing down what you wish to achieve makes goals tangible and real, so that it is no longer just the vague idea in the mind. Put written goals near the computer screen or in a mirror.

You can put team goals on walls near the desks and include them in presentations. Such tactics compel you to work daily to reach the target you set. Writing the goals down evokes a positive tone so there is excitement regarding their completion.

5. Set an action plan

When setting goals, you may miss steps because there is complete focus on the outcome. This makes you forget about planning the steps required. Write down each step and cross off upon achieving these systematically. This helps people to track their progress and this works well for demanding and big goals.
